Obituary

Mary I. Tkacs Costanzo, age 86, of Bridgeport, has suddenly ended her earthly journey to meet Jesus and her beloved late husband of fifty-seven years Nicholas, to spend eternity together, surrounded by her loving family at home. Mary was born in Bridgeport on June 1, 1928, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Hluska) Tkacs, and was a life long Bridgeport resident. She was a 1946 graduate of Harding High School. Mary and Nicholas, whom she met in grade school, were married in 1949. Before starting their family, she worked at several area salons, where she enjoyed the socialization among her co-workers and clients, and of course hairdressing. Mary then decided to make raising her four children, Bob, Roy, Lynn and Ron her full time priority. As her children grew older, she went back to work part-time on weekends at the salon. She enjoyed gardening, and traveling with Nick, together they visited many places, such as, Texas, Florida, Cape Cod, and they also took several bus trips. In 1999 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on their first cruise in the Caribbean. Mary became the sole caregiver for sixteen years, of her late husband, who was unfortunately diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 62, it was her love for him that got her through those hard times. After Nick's passing in 2006, Mary again started to travel and went on her "dream" cruise to Alaska, and just visited Panama this year; she also visited Graceland, which was a great joy, as an Elvis fan. Mary was a life long member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Trumbull, where she enjoyed attending Friday night Bible class, and helping out whenever possible, during spring clean-up, or doing any good deed, she just cherished the camaraderie with her church family. Most of all Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved watching her five grandchildren grow up. Survivors include her devoted children, Robert Costanzo of NH, Roy Costanzo of Bridgeport, Ronald Costanzo and his wife Theresa of Bridgeport, and Lynn Seitz and her husband Robert of IL, 5 cherished grandchildren, Rita, Rachel, Robert, Ryan, and Lisa, her sister, Ruth Torony of Trumbull, sisters-in-law Carolyn Tkacs, Susan Boyko, and Linda Rich, all of FL, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, and parents, she was also pre-deceased by her brothers, Robert and Raymond Tkacs, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 25th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Nichols for a Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida will be at 4:00 p.m. In addition to flowers those desiring may make donations in Mary's memory to St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church or to a charity of choice.
