Martha Tanalski Usdavin, age 99, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late John Usdavin, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 in her home. Martha, was born on April 8, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late Valerian and Frances Tanalski, and has been a long time area resident. She was retired from the Stratford Board of Education, as Secretary to the Assistant Superintendent. Martha was an avid gardener, and was a former member of the Booth Memorial Garden Club. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and doing crafts, and also enjoyed playing Scrabble at the Baldwin Center. Martha always found the good in everyone; one of her nieces was quoted as saying: "She was the coolest lady, with the ability to accept other people's differences." Survivors include her devoted children, John Usdavin and his wife Carol of Stratford, CT, Mark Usdavin of Woodbridge, CT, and Anne Usdavin Yablonski of Vestal, NY, 9 grandchildren, John Usdavin, Joshua Usdavin(Alexandra), James Usdavin(Racquel), Julie Usdavin and JoAnne Usdavin, and Frederic Fenton(Amy), Jeremy Fenton(Tracey), Sara Fenton and John Yablonski, great-grandchildren, Sophia Usdavin, Brennan Usdavin, Alexis Fenton, Nate Fenton, Avery Fenton, 2 sisters, Wanda Tanalski and Anne Ackerman both of PA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents Martha was pre-deceased by her brothers, Joseph and Walter, and sisters, Helen and Stella. A graveside service will be celebrated on Friday, September 16th at 11:30 a.m. in St. Francis Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, CT.
