Martha Kasulat Purat, age 88, of Sneedville, TN was born on February 6, 1917 in Stratford, CT and passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 in her home. She was a member of the Hancock Woman's Club and Tennessee Right to Life. She grew up in Stratford and attended St Paul's Lutheran Church in Bridgeport where she met Rienhold Purat. They were married on November 30, 1940; married for 51 years. Martha served the Church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and council member. She was also active in the Lutheran Church Women and Altar Guild. In addition she served on the Quality of Life committee of the Lutheran Home of Southbury, CT. When her children were grown she assisted in Rien's business, Marvin Brothers Express Company in Stratford. Martha lived in Newtown, CT from 1950 to 2001, when she moved to TN. There she was baptized into Christ and remained a member of the Morristown Church of Christ until the Lord called her home. She was pre-deceased by her parents Amelia Ann Hafersat and Adolf Kasulat; her husband Rienhold Purat; Sisters Emma Kasulat, Augusta Hahn and Lillian Wheeler; son-in-law Richard Clark and sisters-in-law Pauline Purat and Emilie Stone. Survivors include daughters Carol Clark of New Haven and Janet Cose and her husband Jim of Sneedville, TN; granddaughter Rebecca Natasia and her husband Mark; grandsons Karl DeCesare, Matthew and Zach Cose; great-grandsons Jason, Joshua and Daniel Natasia; sisters Helene Wilson of Warren, CT and Edna Keyes of Sunrise, AZ; brother-in-law Waldemar Purat and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. in St Paul's Lutheran Church, Noble Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-7 P.M. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford.
