Martha (Morey) Guggenheim passed into eternal rest with the Lord on Sunday January 24, 2010 at Lord Chamberlain in Stratford. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ernest (Clara) Morey. Her devoted husband, Dudley Lewis Guggenheim, predeceased her. Mrs. Guggenheim was a life long resident of Stratford graduating from Stratford High School in 1934. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church Women's Organization as well as a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. For many years she was a well-known member of the Housatonic Boat Club enjoying her time spent there. Mrs. Guggenheim was an avid crotchetier and knitter, designing beautiful blankets, sweaters, hats, jackets, and mittens for her family and friends. She was an accomplished artist and many of her still life and landscape paintings brought beauty and enjoyment for all to see. Survivors include her beloved sons, Frank (Pete) Guggenheim and wife Pat of New York, Richard Guggenheim and his wife Judy of Shelton, and Kenneth Guggenheim and his wife Bettie of Stratford. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Kelly and husband Ron Coleman, Stacey Guggenheim, Michael Guggenheim, Eric Guggenheim and his fiancé Courtney Conniff, Jason Holt and wife Carline, Rebecca Guggenheim and her fiancé Justin Pecor, Adam Guggenheim and Kelsey Guggenheim. Her sister-in-law Marge Bailie will sadly miss her as will her ten great grandchildren; Tim, Austin, Elijah, Katelyn, Sebastian, Bradley, Anya, Aisling, JT and Devon, along with several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Lord Chamberlain for the compassion and care they extended to their loved one during this difficult time. Funeral services will take place on Friday January 29th at 10 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church Main Street Stratford. Interment will be in Orange Center Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Those desiring may make donations to Christ Episcopal Church in memory of Martha.
