IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Ann
Dina
July 28, 1941 – May 9, 2025
Martha Ann Dina, 83, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the comfort of her home after a long illness. She was born in Bridgeport to the late Joseph M and Frances (Olsavsky) Dina.
She graduated from Sts. Cyril and Methodius Commercial High School in 1957, and then from Stratford High, class of '59. She earned her undergraduate, Master's and 6th year degrees in History and Education, all from the University of Bridgeport, all while working in the University History Department and part-time at Sears Roebuck in downtown Bridgeport as well.
It should be apparent by now that Martha loved school and Education. So, it was no surprise that she became a teacher! She taught Elementary school in the Town of Westport for 38 years.
Upon her retirement, she continued to live a busy life doing volunteer work. She worked in the parish office at Holy Name of Jesus Church, where she was also a longtime parishioner. She became certified by H&R Block and volunteered at the Baldwin Center in Stratford, helping Seniors with their income tax returns. She was a prolific and expert knitter; always the teacher, she taught children's knitting classes at the public library. She was always knitting something. It's likely she made dozens, if not hundreds, of baby items for charity.
Martha was a lifelong, avid Yankees fan and watched as many games as she could. She also tried to never miss a UConn women's basketball game.
Martha loved her dogs! On any given day she could be seen walking with one or two dogs through her neighborhood.
If all that wasn't enough, she kept busy doing her own garden and yard work!
She is survived by her loving sisters, Sharon Dina (fiancé Paul Messier), and Judy (Dr Patrick) O'Hara, nieces and nephews Mike O'Hara, Kate O'Hara (Mike Seaton), Tim O'Hara, SaraJane Curwen, Jason Curwen, and Stephen (Laura) Curwen, 6 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. We are very grateful for Fatima, her devoted and untiring caregiver for the past 5 years, and also the dedicated Hospice nurses, especially Jessica and Pat, who cared for her the last 18 months of her life.
Contributions in Martha's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
All services are private and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Pl, Stratford CT.
