IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marlene M.
Beatty
March 7, 1932 – January 19, 2022
Marlene M Beatty, 89, peacefully entered eternal rest on January 19, 2022 after a brief illness.
She was born in Hartford, CT on March 7, 1932, daughter of the late Henry and Berta Schoop. After graduating from Stratford High School in 1950, she joined the U.S. Army where she met her future husband Bruce, in Kentucky. They were married in 1952 and settled in Stratford to raise their family, which was the center of her life. Marlene loved being a stay-at-home mom to her five children. She always made family birthdays, holidays and summers at her pool special. Marlene enthusiastically supported her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at many sporting and school events, graduations, and award ceremonies throughout her life. In addition, she found the time to work at FINAST, Edwards, Shaw's, and finally Shop Rite, retiring at the age of 79.
She was predeceased by her husband Bruce and her daughter Karen Newall.
Marlene is survived by four children Bruce (Brenda) Beatty of TX, David Beatty of CT, Mary (Mark) Kotak of NC, and Mark Beatty of CT. She also leaves 10 grandchildren who called her "Oma": Kyle (Lauren) Kalemba of NC, Jessica (Jeff) Kochiss of NC, Bryan (Ashley) Beatty of TX, Chris (Sarah) Beatty of Washington D.C., Brett (Aimee) Beatty of OH, Michelle (Alex) Cooper of LA, Todd (Shauna) Newall of CT, Jill (Zack) Thomas of CT, Zak Beatty of CT, and Caroline (Brian) Neal of South Korea. Marlene was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren who called her "Oma G." Ella, Cade, Reid, Claire, Brooke, Nora, Callie, Edin, Ezra, Elliot, Emerson and Quinn. She had many happy memories of the time spent with Donna, Terri, Kevin, Tammy, Kevin, Kerry, Elizabeth and her neighbor of over forty years, Dave.
She will be missed by her loyal and dedicated friends. Proud of her German heritage, she traveled to Germany to visit her family and was always pleased to welcome relatives into her home when they came to visit. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, North America and Europe with her husband, and later, with friends. Her favorite trips were to the National Parks. Marlene was a lover of animals (especially cats) and she never passed up an opportunity to take in and care for any stray she encountered. A lifelong Stratford resident, she volunteered to do what was needed in her community. She was active in the Food Outreach Program, the Helping Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry, and the Lord's Kitchen through Our Lady of Peace Church. She was an active communicant, first at St. James and later at Our Lady of Peace.
