Obituary

Mark Hunyadi, a longtime resident of both Stratford and Trumbull, and most recently of Oxford, passed away peacefully on October 26th, 2021.

The son of Joseph Hunyadi and Pauline Pilat Hunyadi, Mark grew up in the Lordship section of Stratford. Mark always cherished the memories of growing up in that special time and place; exploring the beach and the local dump for whatever treasures he and his brother and friends could find. Mark was a 1966 graduate of Bullard Havens Technical High School, and then earned an associate degree in Electronics from Norwalk Technical College. In December of 1968, Mark joined the United States Air Force. He went through basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, was then stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado, and eventually at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. Mark served as an electronics technician, and always valued his time in the service and the friends he made during his tenure. Upon returning to Connecticut, Mark earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Bridgeport.  For decades, Mark worked at Remington Arms, using his skills in both electronics and accounting. Mark was a jack of all trades, and throughout his life he could be found engaged in one project or another…..carpentry, auto mechanics, electrical work, welding, painting, and more. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the large mud room on his home in Trumbull, yet he always found time for the simpler projects, like changing the oil on his daughters' cars. In his later years, Mark enjoyed watching classic movies and completing crossword puzzles, often with a cat curled up on his lap. He also developed a love of football, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the NFL playoffs with his granddaughter. But most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family sharing stories and making memories and laughing.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife Barbara Kachur Hunyadi, his daughter Sarah Miller and her husband Robert of Oxford, his daughter Amanda Hart and her husband Adam of East Hampton, his brother Barry Hunyadi and his wife Mary of Lowville, NY, his sister Kimberly Hanrahan and her husband Patrick of Stratford, his two beloved granddaughters Rebecca Miller and Elizabeth Hart, to whom Mark lovingly referred to as Bec and Little Libby, and an extended family of sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews who were so dear to Mark, and grand nieces and nephews.
