IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie G.
Mudre
April 21, 1929 – March 10, 2022
Marie Gernat Mudre was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She left this world peacefully on March 10, 2022 - just shy of her 93rd birthday.
She was born to Mary and Vasil Gernat on April 21, 1929 in Bridgeport, CT. Marie is a proud graduate from Harding High School, where she developed a great passion for football. Marie met her life long love, John L. Mudre on a blind date set up by friends and they were wed in 1956, enjoying 56 years of marriage. Together, they had 4 children. Marie was an amazing mother and grandmother. She never let her children miss a day of school, an athletic practice, or go without a hearty meal.
Together John & Marie devoted countless years of hard work to continuing the family business, the Hilltop Food Market in Stratford, which originated in 1931. Outside of the store, the Mudre family made countless memories visiting every landmark in the U.S. and spending time in the Caribbean, and in New Zealand with her daughter-in-law's family. Aside from being an expansive traveler, Marie was an avid sports fan - both participant and spectator. During her employment at General Electric, Marie was a key member of their basketball team. Later in life, she was a super fan of both her children and grandchildren's various sporting events. You could always count on seeing John and Marie at every event, no matter what the weather. Some of her common phrases from the stands were "Hold that line" and "You animals" (towards any opponent who neared her family!).
Marie will be fondly remembered for her "go anywhere" attitude, her sweet disposition, love of penny slot machines and Scrabble games. We are touched and thankful to all the caregivers that brought comfort and companionship to her life, especially Kayla Fardy. It brings the family comfort to know she is in peace and has joined her beloved husband, John.
Marie is survived by her sister Anne Ehnot, sister in-law Eleanor Demchak, children, Paula, Bill, Jack and his wife Jacqui, and Ron, beloved grandchildren Max, Kurtis, Rachel and Lily, and several loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 15 th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 10:00 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
