Margery Fisch Miterko, age 74, passed away September 4, 2011 in Fairfield, CT. Born in Bridgeport and a graduate of Central High School, Marge was a resident of Stratford for nearly fifty years. For the past five years she was a resident of Cambridge Manor in Fairfield and had lived for more than a decade with the progressive decline of Lewy Body Dementia. Marge was predeceased by her husband Richard Miterko and a grandson Joshua Galpin. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristina Galpin and Ed Galpin of Fairfield, and two sons, Scott Miterko and his spouse Peter Bregoli of Brooklyn and Donald Miterko of Ft. Bragg, California. Marge is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Ed Galpin and his wife Nicole Galpin of Stratford, Brian Galpin, his girlfriend Liz McKay and their daughter Brooklynn Daisy Galpin, and Christopher Galpin. Marge worked as a bookkeeper for Tire Service and Sales in Stratford and was for many years an EMT in Stratford. Outgoing and caring with a sense of humor, Marge was an amateur artist and an avid lover of animals. At the time of her husband's death, Marge, undiagnosed, but already feeling the effects of Lewy Body Dementia, struggled until she was finally diagnosed and then chose to embrace life and share that embrace with her family and friends. Marge celebrated more than a dozen 'Girl's Weekends,' visiting museums, art galleries, restaurants, and Broadway shows with family and friends, including her close friend of sixty years Lois Honrath Erdos and Lois's daughters Laura Bashar, Ann Myska and Jackie Troxell. To share her love of horses and horseback riding Marge took her children and grandchildren to a dude ranch out west. Even in Marge's final years living with Lewy Body she entertained, with humor and a smile, her brother-in-law Pete Miterko and his wife Marge during their many visits to Cambridge Manor. While living at Cambridge Manor Marge was fortunate to have been cared for with kindness and love by Nancy Hernandez, Marge's aid and friend. Marge will be remembered privately by her family. In honor of her life the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Stratford EMS or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
