Margaret Anne Lilley (affectionately known as "Margie"), aged 63, died peacefully on January 21, 2015 at Gainesville Health & Rehab in Gainesville, VA, after a long, valiant fight with a rare autoimmune disease. Margie was born February 25, 1951, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Alexander Naiden and Marie Onofrey Naiden. The youngest of three beautiful girls, her sisters both still live in her home state of Connecticut – Barbara Naiden Edwards and her husband Ronald Edwards of Shelton, and her sister, Helen Naiden Macionus of Monroe. She was blessed to have five nephews and one niece whose spouses, significant others, and children she loved dearly. Margie attended St. John Nepomucene School, Warren Harding High School, before attending St. Vincent's College of Nursing where she received her RN. In addition to her role as a private-duty hospice nurse, she also worked for the City of Bridgeport in various positions, including as a clerk in city hall and school nurse. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, Margie possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and silly demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many with her constant smiling, laughing, and joking around. She had a knack for remembering the details of people's lives, loved to listen to and high-step to country music, played a mean game of Scrabble and trivial pursuit, had a penchant for leaving goofy (sometimes saucy) voicemail messages to make people smile, and as her niece Beth fondly said, "she was wise, as well as a wise ass." Her main priority in life was her children and grandchildren - both her own, and those she "adopted" along the way. There was always chicken soup, spaghetti sauce, or stew on her stove. She was the go-to house, the Kool Aid mom house, the anatomically-correct-nurse-mom-that-talked-turkey-about-sex-and relationships, and the all around hang out house. Everyone was welcomed and loved non-judgmentally and unconditionally in her warm kitchen. She lived and breathed for her two daughters and raised them to embrace learning and make it fun - from scouring tag sales for uncensored books, to camping out in lawn chairs in the den to watch "The Sound of Music" and "The Wizard of Oz," to memorizing the names of the states by using x-rated acronyms (so that's why her girls got straight A's!), Margie was her girls' biggest cheerleader and supporter as they pursued advanced degrees and followed their chosen career paths. She was proud of them and even more proud of her grandchildren whom she spoke of frequently. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Fanning Magas and her husband Ronald of Monroe, CT and their children Mackenzie and Ronald, Jr. and Amy Fanning LaHait and her husband Joseph of Gainesville, VA and their children Matthew and Brendan, as well a number of other relatives and close friends. There will be calling hours on(*Note CHANGED DUE TO WEATHER) Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, CT from 9:30-10:30am.
