Obituary

Lois Marie Honrath Kollar Erdos, age 87, of Stratford, devoted wife of the late Joseph J. Erdos, peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.  A lifelong Stratford resident, Lois was born in Bridgeport on July 26, 1937 to the late Carl W. Honrath Sr. and Hildegard Ella (Striebe) Honrath.

She attended Birdseye School (K-8) and freshman year at Stratford High School.  Lois graduated Central High School (1955) and Warren Institute (1956).

Lois grew up in Stratford and would tell the family how she spent many memorable summers at Shady Rest in Sandy Hook on Lake Zoar with her life long friends, Marge and Betty.

Lois retired from General Electric Corporate after 23 years as a Sr. Administrative Assistant.  Prior to GE, Lois also worked at Avco (Gas Turbine) and Bassick Company.

Lois was widowed at the young age of 31 after the sudden death of her first husband, the late Andrew J. Kollar, and had her fifth child later that year in 1968.  Lois lost her beloved son, Andrew C. Kollar four years later.   After being widowed for 12 years, Lois married her loving husband, Joe, who joined her and her four daughters.  They later adopted Lois' granddaughter, Toni Marie.

Lois and Joe enjoyed many years of traveling from Europe, Aruba, Mexico, Hawaii and other islands.  Their favorite trip, for Joe's 60th, was to Austria and Budapest, cruising down the Rhine River and Lois walking down the main aisle of the Basilica of Saint Michael Cathedral in Austria where Maria Von Trapp was married.

Lois was the family investigative genealogist - if anyone had any questions about family history they knew Lois was the "go to" person with her tremendous and remarkable memory, incredible research skills, and elaborate storytelling.  Additional interests included being an avid reader, enjoying jigsaw puzzles, sharing ice cream cones with loved ones, passing down holiday traditions to her family, and watching her favorite shows and daily soaps.  She is especially known for her delicious German pancakes.  Most of all, Lois cherished spending time with her family.

Lois' tremendous strength, love for family, and the kindness she instilled in all of her descendants will be the legacy she leaves behind. She is the beloved mother of Laura (Peter) Bashar, Ann (Mark) Myszka, Jacqueline (John) Troxell, and Toni Erdos (Eddie Cruz). She is the adored grandmother of Nicole (Mike) Gregor, Alyssa (Alec) Voccola, Kristina (Mark) Harrison, Peter (Katrina) Bashar, Andrew, Francis and Maggie Analise Myszka, and Stephen Duranko.  Step grandchildren, Chelsea Troxell Fredericks (Darryl) and Hayley Troxell Hasanlliu (Juxhin). She is the biggest cheerleader and proud great grandmother of Jordan, Scarlett and Eli Harrison; Alec Jr and Aubrey Voccola; Olivia, Ella and Michael Gregor and "Yaya's honey", Amaya Jolee Cruz.  Step great grandchildren Miley and Kylie Fredericks, Nathaniel Weeman and Deja Hasanlliu.

Lois had an abundance of family and friends that she cherished.  Sisters in law include Irene Kollar, Barbara Saveski, and Mercy (Paul) Ingersoll; long time best friend,  Joan Totten Soltis; loving goddaughter Kristina Miterko Galpin; loving nephews and nieces from the Honrath, Kollar, Erdos and Miterko families along with great nieces and nephews who she was so proud of.  Lois also enjoyed her Honrath and Striebe cousins, their children, and many extended family members that visited often.

Lois was predeceased by her forementioned parents and husbands, loving son, Andrew Cornell Kollar, loving daughter, Leanne Margery Kollar, loving brothers Carl W. Honrath Jr (Eleanor), and Robert Arno Honrath Sr (Sarah), and in-laws Cornelius Kollar, Albert Kollar and Steve and Eileen Erdos; closest and best friends Margery "Marge" Fisch Miterko, Nancy Thurkettle Allen, Betty Saunders Guerrara and Geraldine "Geri" Cortina.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to the following for their loving care of our Mom these past 5 months - Visiting Angels' aid Jacqueline, Compassion Home Care aid Terry, Hartford Healthcare Hospice at Home's nurses, (especially, Tashel, Jenny and Helen), aids (especially Sandra and Rockelle), and social worker, Meg, and all the nurses, aids at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, CT.
