Leokadja "Laura" Skurjo, age 84, of Orange formerly of Stratford, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport to the late Karzimier and Emily Jeronczyk, Laura has been a life long area resident. She was the widow of John Skurjo Jr. and was retired from Harvey Hubbell Inc. in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Stratford Baldwin Center and past member of the Honeyspot School PTA. Laura cherished spending time with her three lovely granddaughters. She really enjoyed teaching them the secrets of her baking in which all the extended family enjoyed and looked forward to. Laura's home was the home to be at during the holidays, whether it had been Thanksgiving, Easter, or her favorite holiday- Christmas, since she loved to cook and bake all of her famous goodies that everyone enjoyed. The door was always open for anyone, family or friends; she treated everyone as family. In her free time, Laura's favorite hobby was knitting and crocheting, in which she was infamous for. Survivors include her devoted children: John James Skurjo of Orange, Michael Skurjo and his wife Liz of Milford and Dennis Skurjo of Orange; three cherished grandchildren Melissa, Tiffany and Nicole Skurjo and several nieces and nephews, in which all will cherish the memories of time spent with Laura. She was predeceased by her son Robert Skurjo, a brother Anthony Jeronczyk and Sisters Stella Pitoniak, Jennie Jeronczyk, Terry Sroka and Helen Haray. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 9:15am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 am in St. Michael the Archangel Church Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8pm.
