Laurence S.
Yasgar
March 19, 1942 – August 19, 2023
Laurence Stephen Yasgar of Stratford, Connecticut passed away in Fairfield, Connecticut on August 19, 2023, at age 81.
He was predeceased by his mother, Faye Kramer Yasgar, his father, Samuel Yasgar, and his beloved wife Ronnie Rudinger Yasgar. He is survived by his five children, Erin Yasgar, Andrew Yasgar (Jamie), Ryan Yasgar (Christine), Adam Yasgar (Jenny), Brian Yasgar and his six beloved grandchildren; Daelyn, Jordan, Madison, Silas, Ronin and Veronica.
Larry was born on March 19, 1942, in Hartford, Connecticut and grew up in New Haven. His love of music began with stocking shelves at the legendary Cutler's record store in New Haven. From there Mr. Yasgar entered the music industry as a sales rep for Seaboard records in 1967. He was brought to Atlantic Records in 1970 by fellow Hillhouse High School friend Jerry Greenberg. There, he worked in sales, promotion and eventually began signing artists in the A& R department where his influence on the dance music of the 80s and early 90s began and where he discovered popular artists Debbie Gibson and NuShooz. Mr. Yasgar is also known for being instrumental at that time in the development of the 12" record, a format heard in many dance clubs to this day. He went on to start his own record label, Vendetta, under A&M Records and then on to Columbia Records in the early 90s where he produced the enormously successful C&C Music Factory records.
Larry loved collecting records, comics and vintage movie posters, baseball, a good meal at Patsy's, and his pets. He will be missed.
Larry requested no services or memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Music Cares Foundation in his honor. (www.musicares.org)
