IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katharina Renate
Ferrando
July 12, 1946 – April 20, 2023
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Katharina Renate (Arlet) Ferrando, of Stratford, the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Ferrando of Stratford, passed away on April 20, 2023, at the age of 76.
Katharina, who was affectionately known as "Gigi" by her friends and "Omi" by her family, was born on July 12, 1946, in Hamburg, Germany. She was the youngest of four children of Jerzy and Gerhardt (Gabrecht) Arlet.
Katharina came to the U.S. at 18 years old and worked as an au pair in Westport. There she met some of her dearest and lifelong friends, and where she met and married the love of her life, Charlie.
Katharina spent a good portion of her life volunteering, whether it was for Special Olympics, Bridgeport Hospital, or within her community. She worked for the Stratford Board of Education and Ferrando's Stationhouse Square Restaurant before beginning her long career at AT&T until she retired.
Katharina had a spirited disposition and was always up for some healthy competition. She was an avid bowler in her forties and earned several trophies. Most recently, she enjoyed weekly Wednesday domino games with her friends and was difficult to outwit.
She had a knack for bringing fun and games to family gatherings and was known for her strong hugs and lively sense of humor. She had a huge heart, was the best listener, and went out of her way to make her friends and family feel loved through even the smallest and most thoughtful gestures.
Katharina was a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jake, Nicholas, and Matthew. She raised her grandson, Nicholas, and had an extra special bond with him.
Katharina is survived by her sister, Susi, her three children, Babette Ferrando, Gigi Ferrando, and Christopher Ferrando and his wife Jennifer, her four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Babette Arlet, and brother, Robert Arlet.
At the request of the family, a private celebration of life ceremony will be held followed by a private burial at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. Flowers and/or memorial contributions to your favorite charity are equally welcome
