Obituary

Josephine Irene Haslob ("Jo" to all those closest to her), age 60, of Stratford, beloved wife of Richard Haslob Sr. for more than 37 years, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2011, at Bridgeport Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born on October 12, 1950, in Udine, Italy, she came to the U.S. as an infant in 1951 along with her immediate family. Following her graduation in 1968 from Bassick High School as class salutatorian, she worked at Harvey Hubble, GE, and several law offices prior to starting a career with the organization now known as People's United Bank. During her long tenure at People's, she worked in many different areas and capacities, ending with a stint in Audit Support. A lifelong resident of Greater Bridgeport, Jo was a dedicated mother of three children, devout parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford, and an incurable fan of Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond. Always putting others' needs first, she was known for her perpetual infectious smile and timely words of encouragement. First diagnosed with cancer in 1995, she carried on without complaint over the following years, never losing her sense of humor or desire to help those around her. She will be sorely missed by the family members, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who were lucky enough to be touched by her life. Jo is survived by her husband; son Richard Haslob Jr. and his wife, Kristen Traunecker; son Erik Haslob and his girlfriend, Cathy; daughter, Priscilla Haslob, and her boyfriend, Eduardo; stepbrother Robert Crainich and his wife, Liz; stepbrother Larry Crainich and his wife, Diane; stepsister, Brigida Ovchar; mother-in-law, Mary Haslob; brother-in-law Robert Haslob and his wife, Elaine; brother-in-law Donald Haslob and his wife, Kelly; brother-in-law Gary Haslob; sister-in-law, Mary Haslob; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Maria Crainich; half-sister, Adele Mulhearn; half-brother, John Namor; father-in-law, Christian Haslob Sr.; and her brother-in-law Christian Haslob Jr. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors—especially Dr. Robert Folman—nurses, technicians, and additional staff who helped Jo through her many years of sickness and did their best to keep her comfortable until the very end, as well as the Stratford EMS, who never failed to provide aid when asked. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011, in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford. Interment will be private.
