Josephine Rose Bensko, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law, died peacefully on Monday April 5, 2010 and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born on November 12, 1919 in Stratford CT, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She is the widow of Andrew John Bensko, Sr. and is survived by her son Andrew Bensko, Jr. and his wife Denise, 2 grandsons Aaron Bensko and his wife Jenny and Adam Bensko,
sisters, Lena Marley and her husband Philip of GA, and Dorothy Congdon of FL, a brother Pasquale Mainiero and his wife Toni of MA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brother George Fotta and sister Christina Schefkind. Josie was creative, thoughtful, generous, joyful, selfless, loyal, witty, charming and endearing. To know her was to love her. She had a special way of showing her love to others through giving. She gave time to her church, the local soup kitchen and nursing homes. Her friends were recipients of treasures she found especially for them and her family was blessed by her many care packages, coin collections, cards and gifts too numerous to count. She was always thinking of others first, a truly unselfish woman who loved her family and friends deeply. Her hobbies included reading, visiting with her friends, tag sales, taking pictures, sending cards, traveling and drinking coffee. She took a special interest in everyone she met and will be missed dearly.Visitation will take place in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday April 8th. A Requiem Funeral Service will take place on Friday April 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Orthodox church, 1240 Broadbridge Ave., Stratford. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Panachida Service will be on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.
