Joseph A. Shamatovich, age 94, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Cecilia Wojtkiewicz Shamatovich, passed away on Friday March 2, 2012 in Lord Chamberlain HCC, Stratford. Mr. Shamatovich, a retired foreman for Electric Maintenance Service Company, was born in Bridgeport to the late Florie and Bertha (Back) Shamatovich, and has been a life long area resident. He was an avid boater and fisherman, and a life member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Joseph was also a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants. Survivors include his devoted children Paul Shamatovich and his wife Francine of NJ, Judith Guggenheim and her husband Richard of Shelton, and Thomas Shamatovich and his wife Joan of Oxford, 6 grandchildren Susan Hopta and her husband David, Jennifer Murphy and her husband Timothy, Michael Guggenheim, Eric Guggenheim and his wife Courtney, Donna Iaffaldano and her husband Joseph, Janet Buglione and her husband Christopher, 15 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife and parents he was pre-deceased by an infant daughter Janice, and 2 brothers Stanley Shamatovich and Frank Shay. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday March 7th at 9:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery Stratford.
