Obituary

Joseph Sekara (Sokera) age 86, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006 after a long illness. Mr. Sekara, a WW # II veteran of the U.S. Army served as a Sergeant in Company A 503 D Military Police Battalion participating in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France campaigns. He was born in Portage Pennsylvania and settled in Bridgeport after the war. He was a retired employee of Remington Arms Corporation and a life long devout member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Trumbull. In retirement he served as trip director of the Bridgeport Industrial Retiree's Group. Survivors include his beloved wife Helen, who cared for him during his long illness, a son John and daughter-in-law Lucille of Stratford, a granddaughter whom he loved very much, LT. Amy Balka MD USN, of Jacksonville, FL, a grand son-in-law, LT CMDR Stephen Balka USN who is currently serving his country in Iraq. A cousin Margaret and several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was pre-deceased by a sister Mary and three brothers John, Paul and Michael. Funeral services will take place on Thursday May 18th at 10:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 11 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church Nicholas for a Divine Liturgy with office of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Monroe. Friends may call on Wednesday (Today) from 5-8 p.m. Panachida on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
