Obituary

On Monday, December 26, 2022, Joseph "Jay" Romatzick Jr., doting husband and father of four, passed away at age seventy-seven. He was born in Milford on October 12, 1945, to the late Joseph and Harriet (Phillips) Romatzick, grew up in Stratford with his sibling Bob and next door to his cousins. Jay met his wife, Marilyn during their high school years at Bunnell and married a few years after graduation.  Together they raised their pride and joys, Tommy, Amy, Jennifer, and Jill.

Earning his degree at the Aeronautical and Aviation school at NYU, Jay worked over forty years as an engineer for various companies. He was a master at fixing, helping, and getting things done for his family, whether it be a house construction project, a car or appliance repair or simply a lawn needing to be mowed. He had a solution and a tool to assist with every project.

He had a love of the outdoors and all creatures small and big. His trips to Wyoming were a highlight, hiking the trails in the National Parks but the place where the most miles were covered, was on the streets of Stratford. In retirement, Jay walked two times a day, every day. His wife would know what animals crossed his path and the residents he got to casually meet.

His retirement routine was centered around his wife. Jay showed his love by serving her every need from morning coffee to grocery runs, to midday lunch together watching the last fifteen minutes of their show to endless prepared dinners. Jay loved her most in this world. His other retirement routines included visits or phone calls with his brother, attending family celebrations and being present at his grandchildren's competitions and performances. Jay was a devoted husband, father, "papa" and brother who cherished the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Winoski) Romatzick, survivors include his loving children, Amy (Michael) Greene of Groton, MA, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Ramadanovic of Trumbull, and Jill (Scott) Vangor of Stratford; grandchildren, Brianne/Nate, Joe, Celeste, Hazel, Annie, Peter, Sarah, Tommy and Mary; sibling, Robert "Bob" Romatzick, brother-in-law Raymond Krish; niece Janice Krish and nephew Kevin (Liz) Krish as well as cousins and friends of Stratford. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Thomas Romatzick and twin grandsons Michael and David Ramadanovic.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11 am at Calvary Church, 498 White Plains Rd, Trumbull, CT 06611. Relatives and friends can greet the family an hour prior to the memorial service.
