Obituary

Joseph Patrick Molloy, beloved husband of the late Grace Downs Molloy, died Thursday, April 26 in Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Bridgeport in 1911, the son of Margaret Egan and Patrick J. Molloy, and resided in Stratford most of his adult life. A retiree of Southern New England Telephone Company, Mr. Molloy held supervisory positions in Bridgeport, New Haven, Derby and Stamford. He was a co-founder and treasurer of the SNET Employees Federal Credit Union. Mr. Molloy is survived by his loving daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Eugene Smith of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Judith and William Mulligan of Stratford, Susan and Stephen Abramson of West Boylston, Massachusetts, and by Sheila Holdt of Wallingford. Survivors also include his adoring grandchildren, Sharon and Anthony Bradley, Christopher and Christine Smith, Kevin and Shelley Smith, Alaina Briggs, William and Melissa Mulligan, Laura and David Robertson, Joseph and Donna Mulligan, Kristin Holdt, Brian and Kathryn Holdt, Jeffrey Abramson and Diane Abramson, seventeen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He is also survived by two nephews, William Molloy and James Downs. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, William Molloy and by his son-in-law, Richard Holdt. Mr. Molloy spent his youth in Bridgeport, graduating from Central High School. He enthusiastically participated in activities of the St. Augustine Parish Boy Scout program, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid builder of Heath kits, producing TVs, radios and other electronic equipment for his family's enjoyment. Using his ham radio, he enjoyed communicating with other radio operators worldwide. He was a skilled carpenter, and an avid gardener, stamp collector and reader. He lived ninety-six productive years, always intellectually involved with people and current events. Mr. Molloy was a loving, highly respected, curious, enthusiastic, gentle man. Those who were privileged to know him were touched by his gentle, caring nature and entertained by his wonderful sense of humor. He was deeply loved by his family, and happiest when embraced by their laughter and love. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday April 28th at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Friday (TODAY)from 4-8 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
