Joseph W. Mezick, (William J. Mezick) 84 years young, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Stempel Mezick, who was the love of his life, passed away on November 30, 2015. Joe, a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army was born in Blakely, PA to the late Alexander and Helen (Sasala) Mezick. He was a graduate of Stratford High School and retired from Avco Lycoming after 32 years of service, where he was a Committee Man- involved with negotiating medical benefits. He was also a long time residential house painter. Joe volunteered at Bridgeport Hospital in the ER for over 20 years, with 2nd highest hours totaling 15,676 hours of service. The ER staff was like an extended family to him. He felt like he was Good Will Ambassador to the ER. He enjoyed UCONN Women's Basketball, gardening, going out to eat and enjoying time spent with his family and friends. Dad loved dogs and watching Judge Judy & Jeopardy. Survivors include his daughter, Sandy (Brian) Gervais, of Farmington, and their son Griffin his son, William (Marnie) Mezick, and their children, Stephanie Mezick Davis (Travis), Alicia and Matt Mezick, 2 great grandchildren, Aaron Mezick and Jacob Davis, 3 step-grandchildren, Tommy, Tyler and Ashley Ladore. Special friends, Tom Musto who was like a brother he never had, and Karen, Hal, Joey & Katherine Adams who were like his second family, a special cousin, Yvonne Rowan, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was pre-deceased by his sister, Margaret Voccola. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, December 3rd at 9 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joe's life (Please do not wear black) Interment will be private.
