IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph R.
Kaczvinsky
December 25, 1928 – June 9, 2022
Joseph Robert Kaczvinsky Sr., 93, passed away peacefully on June 9 th from complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
Joe was born on Christmas Day, 1928 to Rudolph and Anna Kaczvinsky in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, New York. His family later settled in Stratford, Connecticut. After graduating from Warren Harding High School, Joe joined the US Army reserve and served for 2 years during the Korean Conflict.
Joe married Lois Hassett in 1956 and supported her and their two sons by working at several firms, including Singer and General Electric, before finally joining the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, where he worked for 30 years, eventually becoming a Senior Instrument Maker. His expertise was in machining optical equipment and grinding high quality lenses, including some of those used in the telescopes on NASA's Skylab. In 2006, Joe and Lois moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to be nearer to family due to Lois' declining health. After her passing, Joe later lived at Sea Trail in Sunset Beach, North Carolina with his son's family for a time and in 2021, moved to the New Haven Assisted Living facility in Little River, South Carolina. Joe spent his free time golfing, gardening, woodworking, rooting for his beloved New York Yankees and Jets, spending time with his family and, as an avid photographer, obsessing over his camera collection. He was also the go-to fix-it guy for his extended family, doing everything from landscaping to hanging wallpaper.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Rudy and Gus, and his wife Lois. He is survived by his sons Joe, Jr. (Colleen) and Donald (Julia); his grandchildren Chloe, Jason and Kaylee and many nieces and nephews.
