Joseph R. Grand Sr. age 79 of Trumbull, passed away on Saturday November 17, 2007 in his home, after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Margaret (Gulash) Grand, he was a Trumbull resident for the past 14 years. A graduate of Warren Harding High School, Mr. Grand, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. A firefighter, he retired after 35 years of service the last several as a pumper engineer, from the Bridgeport Fire Department, where was awarded a Gold Star. He was a member of B.A.R.F. (Retired Bridgeport Fire Dept sick and death association). He loved ballroom dancing for many years, which is where he met his wife; together they graced many a dance floor over the years. He and his wife also enjoyed slot machines and they often took trips to the casinos in NJ and CT. and was an avid NY Giants and Yankees Fan, and also enjoyed cheering on the U-Conn Basketball Teams. Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife of 46 years Christina Chan Grand, his devoted and loving sons Joseph R. Grand Jr. of Shelton and Gary A. Grand of Trumbull 3 cherished grandchildren Ashley, Joseph III, and Brooke Grand of Shelton, several nieces and nephews and a brother John Grand. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Frances Sobieraj and Anne Durica. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday November 21st at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Monroe. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to a Cancer Charity of Choice.
