Obituary

The servant of God, Joseph John Curran, Sr. reposed into Life Eternal this day after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 85. Joseph was born in Brockton, Mass in 1924. After moving to Connecticut, he was a resident of Bridgeport until 1981, Huntington until 2004, and most recently Orange, Ct. Joseph was a graduate of Central High School. He began a career in the Food industry as a meatpacker on the East Side of Bridgeport, rising to a successful sales career with Continental Coffee, Inc., and S.S. Pierce, a division of Kraft, Inc. A nearly life-long member of Holy Ghost Church in Bridgeport, he has been an active and faithful member, serving on many parish committees, including Choir membership and tenure as a President and Vice-President, as well as New England Deanery boards and OCA Focus committees. A distinguished Army veteran of WW2, he participated in D-Day and the Invasion of Normandy. Joseph was a Professional bowler in many area leagues. He was predeceased by his mother Florence Ackley, and his wife Stephanie Sholomicky Curran of blessed memory. He is the beloved father of Joseph John Curran, Jr. of Seymour,Gregory and Maryanne Curran,of Oxford, and Mark and LoveAnn Curran of Seymour. In addition, his loving family members include: his grandchildren, Larissa, Shannon, and Megan Curran; his great-grandchildren, Christian and Kiera, his godchildren Dr. Chester Andrzejewski, Jr. and Matushka Sharon Rubis, several nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law Helen, brother-in-law, Harry, and his loving and devoted companion of the last decade, Mrs. Sophia Rogers of Orange, Ct. His life has touched so many others through loyal friendship and service over a lifetime. His love for so many earned him love by so many. This example of unselfish love is the legacy he leaves each of us to emulate. May his Memory be Eternal! Friends may greet his family on Wednesday May 5, 2010 from 3:30 –6:30 p.m. in Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church 1540 East Main Street Bridgeport. A Panachida Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church. Interment with full military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to Holy Ghost Church.
