Obituary

John Richard Worozilcak, of Milford, beloved husband of Denise C. (Godbout) Worozilcak and devoted father of Kristen Finnegan and Scott Worzel, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.

John was born on February 14, 1944, the son of the late John and Anna (Hodanich) Worozilcak, in Bridgeport. He grew up in Success Park, where he was known as "Whiz" and attended Warren Harding High School until 1960, when his family moved to Stratford; he graduated from Bunnell High School in 1961 and earned an associate degree from Norwalk State Technical College.

Upon graduating from Norwalk State, John accepted a position as an apprentice tool & die maker at Alinabal in Milford. He left Alinabal for a career in the building trades and was a proud member of Carpenter Union Local 77 of Port Chester, New York. Upon retirement from the Union, John worked for the Concord Construction Group until he hung up his hammer for good in 2006.

John married Denise Godbout in August 1967, and he often told his kids it was the best decision he ever made. In addition to Dee (whom he lovingly called "Dear"), he is survived by his daughter Kristen Finnegan and son-in-law Bob, son Scott Worzel and daughter-in-law Kristen ("Sweetheart"), his grandchildren Jack (who was named after him) and Molly ("Princess") Finnegan and Zachary and Lauren Worzel, his sister Janice Masse, nieces Carolyn Matthes, Lisa McCalpin, Allison Vonick, and Michelle Tierney mourn the loss of their brother and uncle Jack. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Elaine Minutola.

John and Dee loved to travel and frequently traveled to Newport, Rhode Island. Other favorite vacation spots include San Diego, Sedona, Cape May, and the Florida Gulf Coast.

Although he was raised in the Russian Orthodox Church, John found brotherhood with the Knights of Columbus, and he and Dee developed many long-lasting friendships with other members of Tinto Council 47, frequently joining those friends on bus trips to destinations across the United States, including New Orleans, Memphis, and Texas. Fiercely proud of his Eastern European heritage, John also belonged to the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society.

John loved the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts (he idolized Johnny Unitas and Cal Ripken, Jr.), stuffed cabbage, black raspberry ice cream, John Wayne and the Wild West, and making his famous homemade salsa, which he proudly delivered to family, friends, and neighbors. One of John's first jobs was as a pinsetter at Town Fair Lanes in Stratford, which ignited his passion for bowling.  A "300" game proved elusive throughout his career; however, he came heartbreakingly close several times with scores of 297. John also relished (no pun intended) a good hot dog with sauerkraut, mustard, and onions washed down by a cold beer — in fact, that was the last meal he enjoyed with his family on Monday afternoon.

Visitation on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 9-11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, with a prayer service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

John also loved nature, and in his honor the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Connecticut Audubon Society.
