Obituary

John "Jack" Sherman Wooster, 88, entered into eternal rest on September 3, 2021.

Jack was born in Bridgeport on September 22, 1932, the only child of Susan (née Anderson) and Paul B. Wooster. The family lived in the North End of Bridgeport and Jack attended Central High, graduating in the class of 1949. Jack then attended Union College and Fairfield University, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

After graduation, Jack served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, where he was stationed in Hanover, Germany. During his time abroad he was also a flute player in a jazz band, performing regularly in local venues. Following his honorable discharge in 1960, he worked for many years as a research chemist at Chesebrough-Pond's, Elizabeth Arden, Pro-Strong and finally retiring from J.R. Chemical in 2011.

Jack married Josephine Critelli in 1963 and they settled down in Stratford where they raised their two daughters, Joy Marie and Julienne "Jill". The family were parishioners of Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford.

Jack was a keen inventor, acquiring several patents in the field of nail enamel compositions. Jack was known for his quirky sense of humor and always enjoyed making people laugh through both his physical comedy and verbal wit. Jack loved science and was an avid reader as well as a linguaphile, and was endlessly expanding his vocabulary with new obscure words which he would share with anyone who was interested. He enjoyed playing the flute, chess, mathematics, exercising, spending time with his two cats, Pumpkin and Blue and watching all of the Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Penguins, as hockey was his favorite sport.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Josephine, devoted daughters, Joy Marie Dokla and Julienne Wooster, and cherished grandson, Griffin M. Dokla, and son-in-law, Michael A. Dokla.
