John Makara Sr., age 90, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Daisy Edna Tash Makara, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in his home. John, a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army, was born in Stratford to the late Andrew and Mary (Halis) Makara and has been a lifelong area resident. He was member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport. John enjoyed traveling, and watching U-Conn Woman's Basketball and the Raybestos Brakette's Softball. Survivors include his son, John Makara Jr. and his wife Kathy of VA, step-daughter, Patricia Sherman and her husband Steve of PA, 2 grandchildren, Kara and Zachary, 2 step-grandchildren, Stephen and Karen, a sister, Julia Makara and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 25 ^th at 10 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
