Obituary

John Walter Schlagenhauf 1911-2005 was born March 24, 1911 in New York City. He joined his heavenly father on October 18, 2005 in the loving arms of his wife Jo after a short illness. Walter's career as an Electronic Technician started in 1927 at the Underwood Corporation in Bridgeport and Hartford, Connecticut where he worked for 15 years. He joined Dictaphone Corporation in Bridgeport, Connecticut in April 1942 as an electronic technician and received awards for analysis of electronic problems in machinery. For two years he was the foreman of the Cadillac Job at Dictaphone. He retired from Dictaphone in May of 1976 after working for the corporation for 34 years. He continued to work for them on a consulting basis for several months after his retirement. He loved fishing in the deep waters of Connecticut. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, boxing matches and reading. Surviving him are his wife Jo Schlagenhauf , brother George Schlagenhauf of New York City, sister Dorothy Schlagenhauf of Meriden, sister-in-law Alice Schlagenhauf of Stratford, son Mark Schlagenhauf and daughter-in-law Mei Schlagenhauf of Denver, Colorado and Arlington, Virginia, son John Schlagenhauf and his companion Alison Blair of Coventry, daughter Diane Mellen and son-in-law Neil Mellen of Monroe, grandchildren Ryan, Tara, Kurt and Zoe. Preceeded in death by his father John Schlagenhauf and mother Anna Schlagenhauf and brother Frank Schlagenhauf. Pop was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor and loved by everyone. We will deeply miss him. The family will gather privately on Friday October 20, 2005 to celebrate his life.
