John H. "Sonny" Sabol Jr., age 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Stratford, beloved husband of the late, Lillian Poe Sabol, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Kindred Hospital, Louisville. John, a U.S. Army Veteran, was born in Bridgeport on May 16, 1937 to the late John H. Sabol Sr. and Theresa Kamenitsky Sabol, and had been a long time area resident, prior to moving to Kentucky, twenty years ago. He was a graduate of Harding High School class of 1955, and received a BS from the University of Bridgeport. John was a retired auditor for the Department of Defense DCAA, working at Norden's in Norwalk, and AVCO-Lycoming in Stratford. Before moving to Kentucky, he also enjoyed working at Short Beach Par-3 Golf Course in Stratford. Survivors include his devoted daughter, Deborah Samilenko and her husband Peter of Milford, his stepsons, Keith McCullum and his wife Phyllis, and Kelly McCullum of Louisville, Kentucky, cherished grandsons, Josef Samilenko of Milford, Nick and his wife Ashley McCullum, and Chad McCullum, and great-grandsons, Luke, Alex and Zack McCullum all of Louisville, Kentucky  In addition to his beloved wife and parents, John was pre-deceased by his sisters, Theresa Young and Patricia Sabol.   Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 12 ^th at 10:45 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 11:30 a.m. in St. John's Orthodox Church 600 Silver Lane Stratford for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of John to St. John's Church.
