John Panas age 89 of Stratford beloved husband of the late Bernice Dunning Panas, passed away on Wednesday May 26, 2010 in his home. Mr. Panas, a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Battle of the Bulge and in England, France and Germany, for thirty-eight months was born in Wehrum, Pennsylvania to the late George and Mary (Lukaninec) Panas and has been along time area resident. He was a retired tool and die maker for Sikorsky Aircraft, and was very handy and loved to "tinker", and was also a member of VFW Post 9460-Stratford. Survivors include his devoted children John Panas of Arizona, Fred Panas and his wife Melissa of West Haven, Helen Riep and her husband Bill of Trumbull, and Diane Brainard and her husband Steve of Cheshire, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several siblings in the Ukraine and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 29th at 9 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford with Very Rev. David Cochran officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
