John G. Mino (Pops) died peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 17, 2016, in Stratford, CT at the age of 89. John is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Maliniak) Mino; children, Ann (Thomas) Barbiero of Stratford, John, Jr. (Sandi) of Milford, Helen (Sam) Grable of West Haven, George (Patti) of East Haven, Paul (Eileen) of West Haven; brother, Pavel of Czech Republic, and sister, Maria (Mino) Leso of Slovakia. John is predeceased by his son, David Michael; parents, George and Maria (Cabyn) Mino of Slovakia; sister, Anna (Mino) Dorocak of Bridgeport, and brother, George of Slovakia. John was born on November 20, 1926 in West Aliquippa, PA to George and Maria (Cabyn) Mino. At the age of 5, he, his sister Anna, and parents went to Slovakia where he resided until he and his sister Anna returned to the United States on the Queen Mary at the age of 20. He met and married his wife of 65 years in 1950 with whom he created the "Mino Village." His 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren remember him as a dedicated, hard-working, fix-it man and avid gardener who encouraged them to pursue a good education and to succeed at their goals. John worked as a draw bench operator for 33 years at the Bridgeport Brass Company and retired after working 12 years at Textron (Avco) Lycoming as a machine bench polisher and finisher. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at 9 am in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 10 am in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday, March 21, 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, blood donations may be made to the American Red Cross in memory of John.
