John M."LEFTY" Stefan, age 77, of Stratford, beloved husband of Mary Edo Knapp-Stefan, passed away on Monday August 15, 2011 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Mr. Stefan, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, was born in New York City to the late Michael and Anna (Porobusky) Stefan and has been a long time area resident. He was a retired planner for AVCO-Lycoming, where he was a member of the softball team. John was an avid softball player, bowler, and NY Yankee fan. He loved to dance, play cards and shoot pool, and was an organizer of many area dances. He was also a member of the VFW. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife include his 5 children Gary Stefan and his wife Dara of Florida, Keith Stefan of Oxford, Douglas Knapp of New Haven, Diane Stein and her husband Howard of Milford and Debra Vittorio and her husband William of Trumbull, 8 cherished grandchildren Keith, Christopher, Kristina, Alyson, Andrew, Craig, Tyler and Marisa, a sister Barbara Dickinson and her husband Ronald of Florida, beloved friend Michael Doran and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his sisters Catherine DePalmer and Ann Iacurci. Funeral services will take place on Thursday August 18th at 9 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Military Honors will immediately follow the Mass. Interment will be private.
