Obituary

John R. Klotz, age 79 passed away on October 13, 2007. John was born in Bridgeport but had resided in Stratford for the past fifty years. A 1946 graduate of Harding High School, John studied and received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Boston University; he went on to gain both a Masters Degree and a Sixth Year Certificate of Studies in Guidance from the University of Bridgeport. John began his career in education by returning to teach instrumental music in the Bridgeport Schools from 1957-1970. He then left to become an elementary school guidance counselor in the Stratford Schools. In 1980, he moved over to Wooster Intermediate School as a guidance counselor, remaining until his retirement in 1992. John was a professional musician, playing with such diverse groups as the Bridgeport Symphony, Shakespeare Theatre Orchestra, and the Paul King Big Band Orchestra. John was a well-recognized model railroad hobbyist having several articles and photos published in the major magazines of the hobby. He was also a die-hard fan of Notre Dame Football from the time he was a teenager, he visited the campus for games several times. During his retirement, John gave freely of his time as a volunteer for the Red Cross and as a driver for the American Cancer Society. Survivors include his beloved wife and friend of 51 years Beverly, his loving and caring daughters Karon Hartshorn of Pawtucket, RI, Karla Klotz of Tunbridge, VT and his son Gregory Jack Klotz of Wallace, ID. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday October 17th at 10:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 11 am in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
