John S. Hovan Sr., age 95, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Anna Filicko Hovan, passed away on November 28, 2024.

John was born in Bridgeport on December 28, 1928, to the late Andrew and Veronica (Swatt) Hovan and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a Korean War veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was a retired detective serving the Stratford Police Department for 33 years. John was a man of strong and steadfast faith, a life member of St. John's Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport.  He and Anna were avid travelers, going on many cruises and visiting Slovakia twice to reunite with extended family.

Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 70 years, include his devoted sons, John Hovan Jr. and his wife Connie of South Carolina, Paul Hovan Sr. and his wife Susan of Stratford, and Michael Hovan and his wife Rebecca of Texas, 6 cherished grandchildren, Ashlee (Edward) Tayag, Breanna Hovan, Shannon Hovan, Paul (Beverly) Hovan Jr., Michael John Hovan, and Kelly Hovan, 5 great-grandchildren, Ellis, Griffin, Zoey, Quinn, and Paul III, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was pre-deceased by his brother, Andrew (Eleanor) Hovan and sister, Veronica (Stephen) Ivanovich.

A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Avenue Bridgeport.

Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford.
