Obituary

John Peter Ganio “Pete”, age 84, of Boynton Beach Florida, formerly of Danbury, beloved husband of Bernadette Kernicky Ganio, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Pete was born in Danbury on May 30, 1941, to the late Dario and Maria (Lohmuller) Ganio and had been a longtime Danbury resident, prior to moving to Boynton Beach five years ago.

He was a graduate of Danbury High School, class of 1959 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Connecticut State College in 1965. Pete was a very proud U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, stationed at Arlington National Cemetery, with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard”. After his discharge from the military, he began his career as manager of Danbury Savings and Loan and retired from sales at Professional Graphics of Norwalk.

Pete loved “anything sports”. He was a lifelong tennis player and an avid golfer, accomplishing 3 holes in one. He enjoyed golfing at Richter Park in Danbury, Heritage Golf Course in Southbury and at the many golf courses near his home in Florida. Pete was a peoples person and history buff, who always told an interesting story, a funny joke, or a little-known sports stat.

Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 60 years include his devoted son, Peter Ganio and his wife Denise, cherished grandchildren, Dylan and Danae, brothers, Paul Ganio and his wife Dianne and David Ganio, a sister, Patrica Wallach and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation on Saturday April 25, 2026, from 10 - 11:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, with prayers at 11:15. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford.
