John Dragstra, age 94, of Stratford, husband of the late Frances Dragstra, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2011 in the comfort of his own home. He was born into a hardworking Dutch family on December 17, 1916 in Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of the late William and Clara Dragstra, and joins his sisters Bert and Clara and brother Bill. John was a devoted husband and father, as well as a talented craftsman and an exceptional teacher, who passed his wealth of knowledge generously on to others. He had the ability to design machinery, build tool sheds and cabinets, and fix anything that was fixable. His expertise was immensely appreciated and enjoyed by everyone in his life. John, an avid sports enthusiast, loved bowling and golf, and, on one occasion, got a hole in one (Go John!). He leaves his brother Richard and wife Bernice; his son John and wife Margaret of Virginia; his daughter Sandra and husband Dennis Magera of Stratford; and his daughter Gail Bilyard of Stratford. He is survived by seven grandchildren; grandson David Silcock; granddaughter Beth Magera and husband Robert Pascarell; grandson Joshua Magera; granddaughter Sarah Magera-Connelly and husband Matthew Connelly; granddaughter Jessica Bilyard; granddaughter Jennifer Dragstra; and grandson Justin Bilyard. His grandchildren, as well as his many nieces and nephews, will truly miss him. He will always be remembered and cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
