Joan Marie (Joni) (Gardecki) Yale, age 58, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, with her loving family by her side, after facing her illness with strength and determination over the past year. She was the beloved partner of Keith Kristiansen for the past 18 years.

Joni was born on May 22, 1967, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Daniel Gardecki, Sr. and Trudy (Borner) Gardecki. She spent her early years in Shelton and later made Stratford her home, with time also spent living in Milford. She graduated from Bunnell High School and went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Joni dedicated over 25 years of her career to the hospitality industry at the Trumbull Marriott, where she built a reputation for her strong work ethic, warmth, and genuine care for others. She began her career as a bartender and waitress and, through hard work and determination, advanced into leadership roles including front desk manager, catering sales manager, and restaurant manager. Joni took great pride in creating positive experiences for her guests and in forming lasting relationships with both colleagues and customers.

She had a love for animals and especially cherished her dogs, Oliver and Finn. Joni was always willing to help family and friends by caring for their pets, treating them with the same love and attention as her own.

Joni will be remembered for her selfless nature and generous spirit. She consistently put the needs of others before her own, always offering her time, care, and support without hesitation. Her kindness touched everyone who knew her, and she found true joy in making others feel cared for and valued.

A devoted daughter, Joni selflessly cared for her parents when they were no longer able to care for themselves. Her kindness and generosity extended to everyone around her, even as she faced her own health challenges with strength and grace.

Joni will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family and friends.

In addition to her partner, Keith Kristiansen, and his children, Joni is survived by her brother, Daniel Gardecki, Jr. (partner Carol) of Stratford; her aunt and godmother, Joan Duda and her husband, Jim, of Monroe; as well as several cousins.

Joni’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Yale New Haven Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital for their love, dedication, care, and the meaningful friendships they shared with Joni throughout her journey. We are forever grateful.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joni will be celebrated at Saint James Church in Stratford on Saturday, May 16th at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joni’s memory to a pet rescue organization of your choice.
