Jo-Ann Rose Belovitch (nee Yakoubian), age 79 of Stratford, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at Mosaic Senior Life. Jo-Ann was born in Bridgeport on February 8, 1947, to the late George and Anna (Calabritto) Yakoubian and was a lifelong area resident of Stratford. She was a graduate of Bunnell High School Class of 1964. Her interest in nursing began when she served as a volunteer Candy Striper at Bridgeport Hospital. She went on to receive her LPN from Bullard Havens Technical School in 1968 and her RN degree from Housatonic Community College/Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in 1992. During her career, Jo-Ann worked for Bridgeport Hospital, Homemakers, Inc., St. Vincent’s Medical Center and retired as a Nursing Supervisor from the Jewish Home for the Elderly (now Mosaic Senior Life). During her nursing career she received numerous recognitions for her exceptional nursing practices and compassionate patient care. Jo-Ann’s hobbies were antiquing, reading, ice skating, cooking, and caring for her many beloved cats. Over the years, she had many of her recipes published in Gooseberry Patch cookbooks.
Jo-Ann was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her devoted brothers Peter Yakoubian and his wife Zana of Ohio and their children, Cristiena (Dean), George (Kimberly) and Kimberly, Thom Yakoubian and his wife Cindi of Enfield and their children Brenden (Julie) and Dustin and sister-in-law Maryann Yakoubian of Stratford and her daughter Amy (John), and Scott (Crystal), Todd (Andria), and Dawn. She had many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jo-Ann was predeceased by her brothers George Yakoubian Jr. and his wife Bettye, brother Robert Yakoubian, and sister Irene Yakoubian.
Jo-Ann’s family would like thank her exceptional caregivers at Mosaic Senior Life and her lifelong, devoted friend Renee Moye. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, April 28 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Prayer service will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by internment in Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport.
