Obituary

Mary Jeannine Milas, age 93, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 19, 2024. Known to all as Jeannine, she was born in Norwalk on April 24, 1930, to the late Ernest and Antoinette (Gauthier) Marsan.  She was an expert tailor from the age of eighteen when she began her employment at Levine Coat Factory in Bridgeport and where she met her future husband. Jeannine married Stanley Robert Milas on September 13, 1952 at St. Joseph's Church of Shelton, CT.  They made their home in Stratford and celebrated a wonderful 65 years together.

She raised her three children and supported their many endeavors while continuing to work part time as a tailor.  A devoted daughter, she and Stanley opened their home to her mother and served as primary caregivers for many years.  In later life, her sewing talents and expertise were on display as she continued to work her magic as a tailor, both privately and for many local businesses, not to mention her own family.

Stan and Jeannine could always be found supporting the interests of their children and grandchildren.  They loved nothing more than time with family and friends.  Great memories were made when travelling to Canada, Hawaii, Costa Rica, National Parks, Florida and Cape Cod, along with many other day trips.  In retirement, they enjoyed sharing their New Hampshire vacation home with friends and family.  She enjoyed a challenging puzzle, a game of cards or quiet time coloring.  Jeannine favored a hot bowl of soup, a delicious slice of pizza, a yummy scoop of ice cream, and always a hot cup of coffee with just a 'chooch' of milk.

Jeannine was pre-deceased by her four beloved brothers, Antonin, Sherman, Harvey, and Patrick Marsan. Survivors include her devoted children, Denise Gross and her husband Martin of Stratford, CT, Lesa Milas and her wife Michele Burnat of Amston, CT and Robert Milas and his wife Sherie of Mansfield, MA, four cherished grandchildren, Kathryn (Glen) Oliwa, Gregory (Jessica) Gross, Grant and Griffin Milas, great-granddaughter, Adelyn and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Comfort Keepers, most especially Joan and Nadine.  Also, Lily, of the Stratford VNA, Edna, of St. Mark's Church and special neighbors Carl and Ellen.
