Jayson Michael Barker "Slim", age 38, of Derby, passed away peacefully with his family and friends by his side on Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Griffin Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on August 20, 1977 to Cathleen Barker-Bryk and the late Cecil Barker Jr. and was raised in Stratford and Trumbull. He graduated from Trumbull High School in 1995 and was on the Varsity Football and Wrestling teams and then went on to Housatonic Community College and received a degree in Criminal Justice. He volunteered for Trumbull EMS at the age of 16, as a dispatcher, later becoming an EMT and driver for them for almost 16 years. He also worked for Danbury and Nelson Ambulance Services. Jay a self-proclaimed movie critic, enjoyed cooking, fishing and above all was a baseball fan that collected a library of memorabilia. He was a volunteer for the Trumbull Historical Society and umpired for Trumbull Little League when he grew too old to be on a team. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help anyone. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather Thomas Bryk, a brother, SSG Cecil W. Barker III and his wife Kalona of GA, his cousins, Jay and Patrick Cuff of Shelton, Dennis Delmonico of ME and Darren Delmonico of CA, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his stepfather Howard Hug and uncle Jay Cuff. A celebration of Jay's life will take place on Tuesday July 26 from 4-7pm in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. All other services are private. The family request in lieu of flowers those desiring may donate in Jayson's memory to the Critical Care Unit at Griffin Hospital.
