Janet Kardos Hayes, age 79 of Stratford the beloved wife of Richard Hayes Sr. passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Janet, a retired receptionist for Drs. Donald and Lisa Carroll was born in Bridgeport to the late William and Gladys (Fox) Kardos, and has been a life long area resident. She was a graduate of Stratford High School, and was a reading tutor for many years at Garden School in Stratford, where she was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts. An avid knitter, there are a lot of people wrapped in the afghans she lovingly made. She also loved to bake, and there was always one of her cakes present for her children's swim meets. Janet was also a sailor and her husband's 1st Mate for over thirty years sailing along the coasts of New England and New York. "Grammy" as she was affectionately known will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Richard, her devoted children R. Neil Hayes and his wife Carol of Shelton, Linda Hayes-Lutian and her husband Michael of Milford, Lori Hayes-O'Brien and her husband James of Trumbull and Brian Hayes and his wife Kelley of Milford, 9 cherished grandchildren: Claire and R. Neill Hayes III, David, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Lutian, Jonathan and Katelyn O'Brien and Olivia and Brian Hayes Jr., a brother Donald Kardos and his wife Margaret of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by a brother William Kardos and a sister Shirley Stengel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 23rd at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church Main St Stratford. Interment will be in Union Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
