Jan S.
Miska
November 4, 1943 – March 23, 2026
Jan S. Miska of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Yvonne, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026.
Jan was born on November 4, 1943, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the cherished son of Stephen and Sophia Gedroic Miska. He grew up alongside his sister, Joanna, and from an early age could often be found on the sidelines of Harding High School athletic fields. A gifted athlete in his own right, Jan became an All-State football player at Harding High School, graduating in 1961. He continued his football career at Vanderbilt University and later at the University of Bridgeport, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Jan went on to complete his master’s degree at Fairfield University.
Jan dedicated his professional life to education, serving with distinction as a biology teacher and football coach at Bassick, Harding, and Central High Schools. He held a deep and abiding love for the city of Bridgeport and an unwavering commitment to the students he taught and mentored. Known for his toughness, strong work ethic, and loyalty, Jan never missed a day of work until he was forced to retire after courageously battling multiple sclerosis. Even then, he remained a source of warmth and humor, always able to bring a smile to those around him.
Outside of his career, Jan found great joy in collecting die-cast model trucks and cars. He took great pride in his collection and enjoyed sharing his passion with family and friends, a hobby that reflected both his appreciation for craftsmanship and his attention to detail.
Jan is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Yvonne; his children, Jason and his partner Gorana, Tara and her husband Alex, and Erica and her husband Paulie; and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Sammy, and Sebastian. He also leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Watermark 30/30 for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Jan.
