James J. Varay, age 75, of Huntington, beloved husband of Diana (Rodgers) Varay, passed away peacefully in his home on January 16, 2018. James was born in Bridgeport on June 1, 1942 to the late Ignatius J. and Suzanne (Visocky) Varay and has been a life long area resident. He was a graduate of Bullard Havens High School Class of 1961 and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Art & Design from Murray State University which led to a successful career in graphic illustration and advertising having worked as an Art Director at Hilti Fastening Systems, General Electric and Varay Associates. Jim was a talented illustrator and won several national awards for his technical illustrations. He was especially known for his great sense of humor and endless jokes and enjoyed spending time playing golf, hiking and sharing laughter with his family and friends. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of more than 50 years, include his devoted sons, James M. Varay of New York, and Gregory S. Varay and his wife Amy of Massachusetts, 3 cherished grandchildren, Addison, Mason and Maxwell, his niece, Ruth Harter, a step-brother, Michael Sweedo of Ansonia, a step-sister, Roseann Lota and her husband Anthony of Branford. In addition to his parents, Jim was pre-deceased by his sister, Joan Harter and her husband Paul.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church 505 Shelton Ave Huntington. All other services and interment will be private.
