Obituary

James R. McDougall Sr., age 71, of Stratford, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a long and miraculous battle with cancer on Thursday, September 29, 2005. Son of the late Helen (Mae) Costello McDougall and Frederick C. (John) McDougall III, he grew up in Bridgeport and spent most of his life in Stratford. Jim retired from Avco Lycoming (Textron) after 43 years of service. After retiring he spent his time enjoying his family, home, nature and travel. Later in his life he participated in a medical study at the University of Texas for a treatment and cure for Porphyria. This is a rare genetic disorder that affected him and some of his family members. One of the medications has been approved and is in use today. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Wilma (Billie) Irving McDougall; a son James R. McDougall, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Seymour; three daughters: Joyce M. Purcell and her husband Robert of Fresno, CA; Kathleen Marsh and her fiancé William Perkins of Hinsdale, NH; and Sharon A. Woznicki and her husband Daniel of Orange. He leaves nine grandchildren: David Purcell, Brian McDougall, Kelly McDougall, Jeffrey Marsh, Jonathan Marsh, Jared Marsh, Christopher McDougall, Alexander Woznicki and D. Jacob Woznicki: four great-grandchildren: two sisters, Marie M. Riley of Albuquerque, NM; Helen (Doll) Dingee of Bumpass, VA; three brothers: Gerald McDougall of Trumbull; John McDougall of FLA, and Edwin McDougall of Seymour and several nieces and nephews. Jim was pre-deceased by five brothers: Frederick C. McDougall IV, Cornelius McDougall, Michael McDougall, William McDougall and Patrick McDougall; brother-in-law: Thomas Riley: two sisters-in-laws: Margaret McDougall and Loretta (Lolly) McDougall. Services will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 9:00 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 am in St. Marks RC Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 pm. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to: The American Porphyria Foundation, P.O.
