Obituary

James Joseph Carney (Jim, JJ) of Trumbull, CT. Born September 20th, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT.

Jim passed peacefully July 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. Jim is survived by his wife and best friend Billie, his beloved son Jay and wife Lorie of Hickory, NC, his devoted daughters Kelly Moran, Heather Alvarado both of Trumbull, and best buddies, his grandsons, Dylan and Martin Alvarado of Boston, MA and faithful companion, his bulldog Nellie.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Josephine and Joseph Carney, brother Robert Carney and sister Joyce Carney.

Jim grew up in Bridgeport. He attended Bullard Havens High School prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps. He proudly served during the Viet Nam war 1965-1969. He became a member of 1st Force Recon, an elite unit only a few are chosen for. Jim was a Purple Heart recipient along with many other prestigious awards. Upon discharge from the military Jim became a proud member of the Connecticut State Police. He served as a trooper at Troop G in Westport prior to serving in the Emergency Services Unit. He had a distinguished career representing the department locally and internationally. He consistently made the Commissioners top 20. He would always say James he was so fortunate to have a job that he loved and looked forward to going to work every day.

Jim will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends. He will be remembered for his kindness and tremendous sense of humor, his awful Dad jokes that graduated to Grandpa jokes.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial will be held at a later date. Semper Fi, Fair winds and following seas, and his all-time favorite, Until Valhalla!

Jim’s favorite charities were The St. Baldricks Foundation, devoted to finding the most promising research for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. He was a proud Knight of the Bald Table. As well as the Gary Sinese Foundation, serving all of our defenders of our freedom and security and the families who sacrifice along with them.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford.
