Obituary

Ivan Nikolaevich Lewykin, age 93, of Trumbull, Connecticut passed away on January 9, 2026.

Ivan was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1932. His father was Nicholas, his mother was Sophia and Ivan had an older sister Tatiana. Ivan lived in Belgrade until the end of World War II and the arrival of Tito to Yugoslavia. Ivan then emigrated to Austria where he trained for a time as a swimmer for the Austrian Olympic Team. His training ended and, in 1950, Ivan and his family emigrated to Rhode Island and then moved to Utica, New York. Ivan studied agriculture at Cornell University for a period of time. Ivan also studied at the Holy Trinity Seminary at Jordanville Monastery.

Ivan then enlisted in the US Army in the tank division. He was stationed in Louisiana and spent time in many of the Southern states during his time in the Army.

After leaving the Army, he then decided to pursue a career in engineering. He moved to Stratford, Connecticut to be close to his sister Tatiana Michailovsky and her husband, Alexander.

Ivan was a very devoted member of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple in Stratford, Connecticut. Ivan met Alla, his wife of 50 years, at a church picnic. Ivan and Alla were married at the church and together, they were life-long and very active members of this parish. Ivan and Alla lived in Southport, CT for about 50 years and moved to Trumbull about three years ago.

Ivan and Alla were strong supporters of the Russian Orthodox Church, frequently traveling across the tri-state area to visit monasteries such as Jordanville, convents such as "Novo Diveevo" and other parishes. They enjoyed traveling to attend religious and other events and seeing their many friends during their travels.

Ivan worked as an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft and then at Avco Lycoming for many years. He designed components for aircraft and helicopter engines. His company went through a number of different owners, eventually becoming part of Honeywell Aerospace. Through all the changes, Ivan enjoyed his work and viewed it as very important.

Ivan was gregarious and fun loving with many friends in his life. He was always ready to tell a joke with a mischievous grin. He enjoyed dancing, spending time with his beloved wife Alla and of course worshiping at church.

After retirement, Ivan enjoyed working around the house and puttering in their garden. The battle to keep the deer and other animals away from the vegetables was an ongoing challenge for him.

Ivan is survived by his wife Alla I. Kallaur Lewykin and his niece Lydia Michailovsky Resnikoff, who lives in Australia. In addition, Ivan is also survived by two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: Dr. Constantine Kallaur and his wife, Arlene Kallaur, currently of Charlotte, North Carolina (formerly of Long Island, NY) and Mr. Walter Kallaur of Fort Myers, Florida (formerly of Washington, DC). Ivan is also survived by his niece Mashenka Lundberg and her husband, Patrick Green of Denver, Colorado and three nephews and their spouses: Gregory and Kelliann Kallaur of Timounium, Maryland, Father Michael and Eleni Kallaur of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Daniel and Ly Kallaur of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his sister Tatiana Michailovsky, her husband Alexander Michailovsky and his niece Vera Michailovsky Andreev. Additionally, Ivan was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Dr. Gustav Lundberg and his wife, Vera Kallaur Lundberg of Staten Island, New York and his sister-in-law Carolita Kallaur of Washington DC.

Panikida will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 6:30 pm in the Presentation of Christ in the Temple Russian Orthodox Church, 5-Wheeler Terrace, Stratford, Connecticut. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 8:00 am, followed by funeral service immediately following at 10:00 am.
