Irene Selepetz Babey, age 92, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late George Babey, passed away on May 22, 2017 in the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Bridgeport. Irene, a retired employee of General Electric was born on July 4, 1924 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late George and Anna (Madzin) Selepetz and has been along time area resident. Survivors include her devoted children, Karen Dobosz of Stratford, Lois Babey-Finn and her husband David Finn of Madison, and Jeffrey Babey and his wife Lori of Stratford, 2 grandchildren, Laura Dobosz of Stratford and Jeffrey Babey and his wife Lindsey of Shelton, 2 great-granddaughters, Audrey and Catherine, 3 sisters, Ann Balasa, Helen Shutack, and Betti Basalyga, a very dear sister-in-law, Dorothy Marsan, and several cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Irene was predeceased by her brother, George and sister, Mary. Irene's skill as a seamstress was well known at St. John's for creating vestments of ornate brocade fabric for Monsignor and the Altar Boys. She later passed these advanced skills to her granddaughter, Laura who went on to FIT, and work at Nike. Irene was also known for her smile and overall sense of happiness, a trait often mentioned by the staff at Senior Services, who found her inspirational. Irene loved to cook and bake for her family, and spent countless hours at St. John's "Pirohi Palace". Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 25 ^th at 11:00 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 11:30 a.m. in St. John's Orthodox Church 600 Silver Lane Stratford for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford.
