IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hilda Ann
Kasper
June 2, 1922 – January 24, 2023
Hilda Kasper of Southbury, CT passed away at home on Tuesday, January 24 th at the age of 100. She lived in Heritage Village for nearly 30 years, and previously in Monroe, Bridgeport and Milford CT, after leaving New York City as a young woman.
Hilda was born in Corona, Queens, NY to Lucia (Campanella) and Michael Lapallo on June 2, 1922. She was the youngest of ten siblings, three sisters and six brothers, all of whom are predeceased. Hilda's husband Andrew Kasper, and her first husband, Matthew Cuccaro, are also predeceased. Hilda's legacy is her absolute devotion to family. She leaves behind five sons, Richard and Ron Cuccaro, Andrew, John and Dwayne Kasper, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
One of Hilda's greatest gifts was her voice. Always singing, she even performed once live on the radio (rumor has it preceding Frank Sinatra) and once on TV. Her talent was in demand at many special occasions, her torch songs could melt the hardest heart. Hilda's love of music extended to the dance floor, where her lindy flair, shoulder shimmy and exquisite timing was on display at family weddings well into her 90's.
Early on, Hilda worked at Macy's Herald Square and then Sikorsky Aircraft as a riveter after moving to CT. Later in life, Hilda represented the Hoover Company and finally worked as a real estate agent until the age of 75. Throughout, her role as wife, mom and gram was central to who she was.
With her move to Southbury from Monroe, Hilda became an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church. She volunteered in the church kitchen making sandwiches and lending support to the bereaved. Hilda was vibrant walker, a member of the Heritage Village Hiking Club, Italian Renaissance Club and duck pin bowler.
Hilda will be remembered as an honest, strong, forthright and fiercely independent woman. She lived alone until she was 98. A mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, in-law, and loyal friend, Hilda will be forever missed by all who came to know her.
For those who are so inclined, in lieu of flowers, Hilda would have been honored by your contribution in her name to Sandy Hook Promise https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/ .
