Helen Chanda Devine, 98, of Orange passed away on November 28, 2015 at Milford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late James M. Devine for 51 years. Helen was born in Bridgeport on September 2, 1917 to the late Michael and Anna Chanda. She was also pre-deceased by her stepmother Mary Chanda. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church where she participated in the Ladies Guild and Council of Catholic Women. Her husband James was a Trustee at St. Charles for 40 years before his passing in 1996. Helen was a member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield. During the 1960's, she was also a member of the Bellarmine Guild at Fairfield Preparatory School while her son attended the school. She and James shared many memorable events and lasting friendships with the Jesuit community. Helen and James enjoyed dining out for many years. From local Bridgeport and Stratford restaurants like the Venetian Gardens, Blue Goose and Fagans to La Chambord, Manero's, Allen's and Clemente's in Westport, to Jeffrey's in Milford, these restaurants provided them with great cuisine and opportunities to share time with family and friends and develop new friendships. Helen and James also enjoyed horseracing with trips to Belmont and Aqueduct including stopovers in Manhattan, and the annual trip to Saratoga and the Gideon Putnam Inn. Helen is survived by her son, James and his wife Susan of Milford, her niece, Margaret Rajotte of Milford and her cousin, Joan Chanda of Stratford. Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Maplewood Senior Living of Orange for the exceptional care and friendships they provided to Helen. They would also like to thank Edward Tuohy M.D. and the staff of Cardiac Specialists for providing outstanding cardiac care for Helen over the last five years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at Saint James Church, 2070 Main Street Stratford, CT. Interment will follow at Saint John's Cemetery, Stratford CT.
