Obituary

Gregory Paul Rydelek, age 60, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Friday December 22, 2023, at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Interstitial Lung Disease. He was the beloved husband of Kimberly Donahue Rydelek.  Born on June 2, 1963, raised in Trumbull, Greg was the son of Katherine Demayo Rydelek of Trumbull, and the late Paul Roscoe Rydelek. Greg was a graduate of Trumbull High School, Class of 1981. After graduating, Greg went on to receive a diploma in Computer Hardware Technology from Porter and Chester Institute in Computer Electronics. He later earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Secondary Education, with a major in History and a minor in Social Sciences and Computer Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Greg later attended Sacred Heart University where he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration/certification in Elementary Education. He also earned a Master of Science in Instructional Media and Technology from Southern Connecticut State University. Greg's first teaching assignment was at St. Joseph High School where he taught History and Sociology.  He then moved to Stamford Catholic High School and taught World Geography, American Government, Economics, and U.S History.  While there, he developed the ninth-grade social studies curriculum. In 1991, he was awarded the WNET(Channel 13) UTIE Award which recognizes outstanding examples of utilization of Instructional Television in the classroom. Greg then moved on to teach at Multicultural and High Horizons Elementary Magnet Schools in Bridgeport, as the K-8 Computer Resource Teacher, where he met his wife and best friend, Kim. From 1994-2001, Greg worked as the K-8 Computer Teacher/Technology Coordinator for the Seymour Public School System. He then worked for a year as the K-8 Library Media Specialist in Bridgeport. Greg's final and most beloved teaching position was from 2002-2015, where he worked as the Computer Education Teacher at Westbrook Middle School.

After Greg had to prematurely leave teaching due to his illness in 2015, he started his own computer business. He took great pride in providing the best customer service for the best price. He treated all of his customers like family and spent much time and care with each client. Greg´s passion was working on his lawn. He was very proud of his meticulous property, which he planted and seeded with Kentucky Bluegrass himself. Greg always insisted on maintaining all of his own property until he became too ill last year.  Above all, Greg´s proudest achievement was the family he built with Kim. He was a wonderful husband and father who loved spending time with his family, which included his beloved dogs Eloise and his loyal best friend Blue. Greg loved taking care of them each day, and they loved taking naps cuddled on the couch with him. Greg will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as he was an easy going guy with a gentle smile and kind demeanor.

In addition to his mother Katherine, and wife of nearly 30 years, Kim, Greg is survived by his loving children; Alexander Gregory Rydelek, and Kara Celia Rydelek both of Trumbull, whom Greg adored and was extremely proud of; his sister Laura (Lawrence) Fitzgerald of East Lyme; his mother-in-law, Diane (William) LaBrecque of Shelton; his sister-in-law, Audra (Jeffrey) Vitti of Southington; his brother-in-law Keith Donahue of Shelton, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the Medical ICU staff at Bridgeport Hospital, including his physicians/pulmonologists, respiratory specialists, and wonderful nurses that provided Greg with excellent and loving care. We are grateful for the support and compassion you provided every step of the way.
